(Actor) most recently appeared in Broadway revival of Once on This Island as Tonton Julian. Other Broadway credits include Sunday in the Park With George (Boatman/Lee), On the Town, and the acclaimed revival of Porgy and Bess, for which he received Tony® and Drama Desk Award nominations for his portrayal of Crown. Boykin has performed Porgy and Bess in Germany, Portugal, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand and has sung at the Kennedy Center and with the Cleveland Opera Company, Hartford Symphony, and Cleveland Pops. He also appeared as Joe in the National Tour of Show Boat. Phillip started studies in Opera Performance at South Carolina State College before transferring to the North Carolina School of the Arts and then the Hartt School of the University of Hartford, where he received his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance.
