Originally from Queensland, Australia, Michaeljon moved to the United States in 2004 after winning the Australian Dancer of the Year Award and was given a full scholarship to attend American Ballet Theatre’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School. He then went on to enroll in the B.F.A. dance program at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City, making him the first Australian ever to be accepted into either one of these programs. During his time at Juilliard, Michaeljon was fortunate enough to perform the works of such acclaimed choreographers as Jirí Kylián, Antony Tudor and Twyla Tharp. Soon after, Michaeljon made his Broadway debut as an original cast member and Dance Captain of the 2009 revival of West Side Story, directed by Arthur Laurents.
Michaeljon has continued his career on Broadway as both a performer and Dance Captain. He has appeared in the Broadway companies of Billy Elliot the Musical, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (original company starring Daniel Radcliffe), Evita (original company starring Ricky Martin), Side Show (original company), and Matilda. He is recently finished as Dance Captain of the 2017 revival of Broadway’s Hello, Dolly! starring Bette Midler.
In addition to working on Broadway over the past several years, Michaeljon has been performing in numerous productions regionally and throughout New York City, including the one-night-only performance of Guys & Dolls starring Nathan Lane, Patrick Wilson, and Megan Mullally. He has also been busy appearing in both film and television, with some of his most notable televised credits including the 2010 Kennedy Center Honors, both the 2011 and 2014 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the 2011 and 2012 Tony Awards and most recently, the 2015 Academy Awards. He was also a part of the opening number of the major motion picture Ted 2 directed by Seth MacFarlane.
When not performing, Michaeljon promotes the importance of arts education and hopes to continue to share his knowledge and experience with the next generation of young performers.
