Perform for Carnegie Mellon’s University, Gary Kline and discover via one-on-one work how to get your repertoire shining for your upcoming collegiate program auditions and performances!

This class is open to intermediate and advanced musical theatre performers, and recommended specifically for rising High School Juniors and Seniors. Attending performers will work individually with Gary, be part of a special Q&A session during the class, and learn from watching other students work with gary as well. No audition is necessary to register. Participants need to bring a 16-32 bar cut of an audition song (about 1 minute) either Musical Theatre or Pop. MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

GARY KLINE:
Gary Kline has taught singing and music theatre courses for Carnegie Mellon University’s prestigious School of Drama since 1990, where he’s also overseen the Vocal Curriculum. His teaching experience also includes Master Classes at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) in Sydney Australia, the ArtsBridge Program, the Flying Swan Program at Wesleyan U., The Broadway Theatre Project at FSU, The Performing Arts Project at Wake Forest, and Perry-Mansfield Arts Camp.
At CMU, Gary has had the opportunity to teach performers, including Tony Winners Christian Borle and Renee Elise Goldsberry, Tony-Nominees Patina Miller and Megan Hilty; Patrick Wilson, Rory O’Malley and more!
As a performer himself, Gary has appeared in leading roles in Evita, Jesus Chris Superstar, A Little Night Music, 1776, Man of La Mancha, The Secret Garden, The Laramie Project, and Fiddler On The Roof. He’s also performed with the Pittsburgh Pops under Marvin Hamlisch, and in numerous cabarets.
Gary is a graduate of the Dana School of Music (YSU) and Carnegie Mellon’s School of Music. He has studied acting at Stanford with Richard Dreyfuss, Marsha Mason and Ann Jackson, as well as at the Professional Musical Theater Program with Johanna Merlin and Victor Garber. He’s a proud member of Phi Mu Alpha, Actor’s Equity and NATS.

Online One Day Master Classes are open to ages 10-25.
Class size is limited to 12 participants to ensure that each student receives personal attention from our special guest instructors. Enrollment will be closed when the class reaches capacity.

The basics about BAA online classes:

What you’ll need to have:

  • An internet connection.
  • A computer or connecting device with a camera.
  • A secondary device in which to play your accompaniment track (for vocal sessions).
  • A quiet space to connect from.
  • A headset for when you are listening to other people perform or the instructor speak! (You can remove them when it is your turn to perform!)

How will it work?

  • We will meet using ZOOM.
    This is a free service you may already have. Please, download the latest version to guarantee a smooth connection and use of all the latest features. When creating your user name, please make sure it features the student’s NAME and/or LAST NAME so you can be easily and properly identified by the instructor.
  • Logging into your ZOOM class room. 
    You’ll receive a Zoom class room link before the start of the first session of your selected series. This will be the same link you’ll use every week to connect.
  • Only participants registered in the Master Class will be allowed in. So, reserve your spot in a timely manner!
  • Your instructor will be accompanied by a BAA Staff member during each Master Class. The BAA staff member will supervise, address and help with any technical questions, and guarantee each performer gets equal work time with the instructor. During vocal classes, we will lead a warm up right before so everyone is ready to sing!
