Video Audition Information
To submit a pre-recorded BAA video audition:

➡️ Record your audition videos (all video auditions must be solo material; group material will not be considered).
➡️ Complete the 2024-2025 Online Application
➡️ Upon selecting the “I will submit/have submitted a video audition” option in your Online Application, you’ll see the spot to submit your video audition links.

When should you audition?
The sooner, the better as BAA admits students in a rolling basis (first come, first served)
Are you a BAA Alumni?
If you are a BAA alumni needing to re-audition, you can now submit your videos directly when completing your updated 2024-2025 Online Application. There will be a space to share your links on the last page!
Already submitted your Alumni application and need to send video audition clips? Reach our to us through info@baaoffice.org for information!

Below you will find a list of Video Audition requirements by program and (if applicable) by major. Please review the requirements and information below carefully and, when you’re ready to submit your materials, click the button at the bottom of this page
2024-2025 VIDEO AUDITION DEADLINES:

- Thursday, January 2nd, 2025 – Winter Programs video audition deadline.
Submit by this date for consideration to BAA’s Winter Workshop - Thursday, March 27th, 2025 – Early Summer Programs video audition deadline.
Submit by this date for full consideration to all 2025 BAA Summer Intensive Programs - Thursday, April 24th, 2025 – Summer Programs video audition deadline (Latecomers)
Submit before this date for consideration to remaining available spots to 2025 BAA Summer Intensive Programs

VIDEO AUDITION REQUIREMENTS BY PROGRAM:
Summer Sessions and Winter Workshop video requirements (Majors based programs):
- Two contrasting 16 – 32 bar musical theatre selections (one of the two pieces may be a pop-rock selection) that demonstrate vocal range, musicianship, and performance skills. Live accompaniment is preferred although music tracks are also acceptable. No a cappella singing, please. Submit solo material only; we will NOT be able to accept duets, trios, or group numbers as audition material.
- We will be looking to see that you’ve addressed the following questions with your song interpretation:
- Character: Who am I?
- Other/Scene Partner: Who am I talking to?
- Objective: What do I want?
- Tactics: What are the things I am doing during my song to get what I want?
- Moment Before: What happened just now that prompted me to start singing?
- Stakes: How important is what I want? What will happen if I don’t get it?
- Environment: Where am I? In what time period does this piece take place?
- You may also choose to include a brief video personal statement to give us a better sense of your personality and background.
- If a student wishes to be considered for Voice and also Acting and/or Dance, they should prepare the audition materials listed for both Majors (see Acting and Dance specifications below).
- Two contrasting 1-minute monologues that demonstrate acting range, characterization, and performance skills.
We recommend contemporary, age appropriate monologues, and at least one of your selections should be comedic.
Monologues may be taken from contemporary plays and/or monologue books.
Solo material only; we will NOT be able to accept scene work as audition material.
We will be looking to see that you’ve addressed the following questions with your monologue interpretation:
- Character: Who am I?
- Other/Scene Partner: Who am I talking to?
- Objective: What do I want?
- Tactics: What are the things I am doing during my monologue to get what I want?
- Moment Before: What happened just now that prompted me to start speaking?
- Stakes: How important is what I want? What will happen if I don’t get it?
- Environment: Where am I? In what time period does this piece take place?
- You may also choose to include a brief video personal statement to give us a better sense of your personality and background.
- If a student wishes to be considered for Acting and also Voice and/or Dance, they should prepare the audition materials listed for both Majors (see Acting and Dance specifications below).
- Choreographed piece(s): 2-5 minutes of solo dance material that demonstrates technique, flexibility, characterization, style and musicality. We recommend submitting two or three shorter combinations (at least one piece must be Jazz or Theatre Dance; the remaining pieces may be in any style, although tap and ballet are recommended). We will NOT be able to accept group dance numbers as audition material.
- Required Skills to submit:
- Required Skill #1: A clean double pirouette on the right and left sides, either turned in or turned out, landing in any position.
- Required Skill #2: A grand jeté on the right and left sides, with straight leg or through développé.
- Required Skill #3: Pas de bourrée on the right and left sides.
- Required Skill #4: Battement on the right and left sides.
- Required Skill #5: Held arabesque on either leg.
- Required Skill #6: One additional “trick”. Tricks may include switch leaps, tumbling, multiple pirouettes, side leaps, fouetté turns, flexibility tricks, etc.
- You may also choose to include a brief video personal statement to give us a better sense of your personality and background.
Non-majors programs video requirements:
- One 16 – 32 bar musical theater selection that demonstrate vocal range, musicianship, and performance skills. Live accompaniment is preferred although the use of music tracks is also acceptable. Solo material only; we will NOT be able to accept duets, trios, or group numbers as audition material.
- One 1-minute contemporary monologue that demonstrate acting range, characterization, and performance skills. Your monologue may be taken from contemporary plays or a monologue book. Solo material only; we will NOT be able to accept scene work as audition material.
- Two 16 – 32 bar musical theater selections that demonstrate vocal range, musicianship, and performance skills. Live accompaniment is preferred although the use of music tracks is also acceptable. Solo material only; we will NOT be able to accept duets, trios, or group numbers as audition material.

One Day Master Classes and the Adult Professional Workshop do not require an audition,
but students interested in those programs only must still complete a 2024-2025 BAA Online Application.

- Your Major is your focus while you’re with us and it also determines what you will perform for your final industry showcase (Voice Majors perform a short musical theatre selection, Acting Majors perform a short monologue, and Dance Majors perform a short solo theatre dance combination).
- You may audition for and be accepted into multiple Majors, but you will eventually declare only one Major per program you attend.
- In addition to your Major classes, you will have the opportunity to choose Elective classes in Voice, Acting, or Dance to improve your triple threat skills.
